  • Info

The smallholder farmers which produce this stunning coffee can be found in the eastern foothills of Mount Kenya. Each day, over 550 farmers of the Kibugu Farmers Cooperative Society deliver freshly picked ripe cherries to the Ngwere Factory. Traditionally, coffee from the Embu region has been known to offer rounded acidity and deep fruit flavours.

Farmers that are a part of the Kibugu FSC are able to participate in practice seminars, access sustainable farming handbooks and receive pre-financing to cover the cost of farm inputs and school fees.

After picking, the ripe cherries are delivered to Ngwere Factory. A traditional disc pulper is used to remove the skin and fruit before being left to ferment overnight. Once fully washed, the coffee is spread to dry on raised tables for up to 15 days, depending on the climate, ambient temperature and volume of coffee. The coffee is regularly turned and sorted by hand to remove any defects and ensure even drying.
