Ethiopia Suke Quto (Natural) Espresso

Floral, with stone fruit and rhubarb jam, green apple acidity and a white chocolate finish.

  • Info

We are thrilled to offer this beautiful natural process Suke Quto lot from the Guji Zone, Ethiopia. In the aftermath of a bushfire, Tesfaye Bekele created the Organic and Rainforest Alliance certified Suke Quto Farm and washing station, with a focus on forest conservation and sustainability.

Tesfaye recruited 150 out-growers to help replant the destroyed forest, and assisted in the conservation of the remaining forest by distributing coffee and shade tree seedlings amongst the local community. From this, his dream for the Suke Quto Farm was born: to develop environmentally friendly coffee while sustaining the local community with a consistent income.

Among the thousands of unidentified heirloom Ethiopian varieties, the Suke Quto lot consists of predominately two: Kurume and Welicho. Kurume is one of the most well known Ethiopian varieties, commonly labelled as Yirgacheffe coffee, and typically smaller than other heirloom varieties. Welicho is found in the highlands of Ethiopia, distinguished by large cherries with a purplish hue and deep green leaves.

As a natural Ethiopian heirloom variety, this bean is processed with the cherry parchment still on, accentuating the delightful jammy fruit notes.
