  • Info

Owned by producer Yuver Andres Arambulo Castro, Finca El Paraiso is a small organic farm located in the renowned Tolima department of Colombia. This is the first time that Yuver’s coffee has been separated and sold as a single farm microlot, and we are so pleased to be involved in this initiative, in collaboration with our friends at Asotbilbao Cooperative.

Yuver, with the help of his son “Boomer”, is pushing the envelope of growing and processing in the small community in Bilbao. The Arambulo family were some of the first to plant Gesha in the coop, and have been experimenting with extended fermentation and natural processing for their lots. Given their preposterously high growing elevation (over 1900 meters above sea level), we are waiting with excitement to see how their coffee production develops over the coming years.

This coffee is the perfect showcase of a high altitude, highly refined Caturra lot, which has been grown under shade and handpicked only when ripe. The coffee is wet milled on-site, dry fermented as cherry for 12 hours prior to depulping, then depulped and fermented under water for 18 hours in tanks (depending on pH).

Yuver Andres is the General Coordinator of the Asociación de Tecnólogos y Productores Agropecuarios de Bilbao (Asotbilbao), Yuver implements organic farming practices across his 18-hectare farm, including the use of organic liquid fertiliser. With the help of the other members of Asotbilbao, these environmentally friendly practices and methodologies are promoted to the surrounding Tolima coffee growing community, with the ultimate aim to improve not only the coffee but the socio-economic growth of the region too.

Asotbilbao was founded on October 2010 by 35 members who graduated from SENA –Colombias’ Higher Education National Service. They wanted to serve as a bridge between the Governmental institutions and coffee producers, to enhance coffee quality and productivity.

Currently, Asotbilbao has 38 active members from different areas of Bilbao, Municipality of Planadas in South Tolima, and have become well-known for their organisational skills, high cup scores and Organic and Fair Trade certifications.
