    This is a true one of a kind coffee, one of the most unique natural Colombian coffees we have tasted this year, and well deserving of the “Seasons Best” seal. 

    Owned by producer Odavey Reinoso Alape, Finca Esterlina is a small organic farm located in the renowned Tolima department of Colombia. Odavey implements organic farming practices across his 7-hectare farm, including the use of organic fertiliser and compost made on-site. 

    Odavey grows Bourbon, Caturra and Castillo varieties (this lot is a blend of Caturra and Castillo) and is an avid Organic practitioner. He picks his coffee entirely by hand with his team of five employees, and dried the coffee naturally on-site. Cherries are picked and sorted, and then allowed to rest / ferment in sacks for 72 hours as whole fruit. The cherries are then transferred to drying beds for drying, which can take up to 4 weeks.

    Our recommended recipe for Pour Over Brewing at home or in-cafe.

    We start with a 60g water bloom for 30 seconds.

    This recipe is developed on a Kono 01 Size dripper with Kono 01 filter papers. Other equipment configuration may require slight recipe modification.

With the help of the other members of the local community, these environmentally friendly practices and methodologies are promoted to the surrounding Planadas coffee growing area, with the ultimate aim to improve not only the coffee but the socio-economic growth of the region too. 

    Odavey lives a short 20-minute motorbike ride from Finca Esterlina with his sons, and has a long lineage of coffee farming, with his father Simeon also operating a coffee farm in the Siquila area.

    In October 2010, Odavey was the founding member of a local cooperative focused entirely on Fairtrade and Organic coffee production, along with 34 other members who graduated from SENA –Colombias’ Higher Education National Service. They wanted to serve as a bridge between the Governmental institutions and coffee producers, to enhance coffee quality and productivity. 

    Currently, there are 38 active members from different areas of Bilbao, Municipality of Planadas in South Tolima, and have become well-known for their organisational skills, high cup scores and Organic and Fair Trade certifications.
