Burundi Muruta (Natural) Espresso

Rich brown sugar sweetness, raspberry, nutmeg and a lingering toffee finish.

  • Info

The Kayanza region is situated in the north of Burundi, bordering Rwanda, where over over 3,000 smallholder farmers from the surrounding hills sell their coffee to Buziraguhindwa each season. While Buziraguhindwa originally produced mainly fully washed coffee, they have begun to experiment with and produce high quality natural and honey coffees. This specific lot was grown in Muruta and processed at Buziraguhindwa washing station.

Ramadhan Salum is the owner and managing director of four washing stations which have all built a reputation for producing exceptionally clean and top quality coffee. Salum sees a lot of value in supporting the local communities. He has created employment opportunities, built infrastructure for the locals, provided seedlings for farmers and has donated land and provided financial support for a school. This, together with the premiums and second payments for the coffees, is to encourage the farmers to increase the quality in their farms and pick better cherries during harvest.
