Brazil Sítio Baixadão (Natural) Espresso

Rich and creamy, reminiscent of a macadamia brownie, with a caramel finish.

  • Info

Sitio Baixadao is undoubtedly one of the leading, and to be short, one of the best specialty coffee farms in Brazil today. Located in the hills overlooking the town in Cristina, in the famed Mantiqueira de Minas region of Sul de Minas, Sitio Baxaidao and its sibling farms are producing incredible quality coffees year after year.

Baixadao’s Owner Sebastiao Afonso da Silva and his son, Helisson Afonsa da Silva, together enjoy the perfect combination of experience and innovative thinking. Sebastiao and his family have been producing coffee on this land for over 20 years, after deciding to shift from rice production to coffee cultivation. His deep understanding of agricultural practices as well as his constant efforts to improve both the agricultural and processing sides of the operation at Baixadao are immediately apparent when visiting this exquisite coffee farm. Similarly, Helisson’s keen mind and natural tenacity from growing up in and on coffee farms has brought meticulous data collection and analysis, innovative re-thinking of processing and fermentation, and a well-equipped cupping lab to the farm. Simply put, the da Silvas are leading the way in terms of coffee production in Mantiqueira, and more broadly, in Brazil generally.

The energy and hard work invested in Sitio Baixadao have yielded global acclaim and recognition. The da Silvas made history in 2014 when they won the Cup of Excellence in Brazil with the highest scoring coffee ever in the competition, and, again in 2015, when they took the top prize in the natural processed competition. As recently as 2019, Sebasiao and Helisson were recognised with first and second place in the Mantiqueira regional Coffee Auction – both coffees that we were honoured to have purchased this year.

We could not be happier to recognise the da Silva’s hard work and indefatigable energy by purchasing from Sitio Baixadao for the fifth consecutive year in 2020. We cannot wait to see what Sebastiao and Helisson are able to produce in the years to come.
