    Granja São Francisco could be considered a classic Brazilian coffee farm, steeped in tradition and with a longstanding family history in coffee production (the estate has been owned by the Ribeiro family for over eight decades). Today Granja São Francisco is managed by Otaviano Ribeiro Ceglia who, together with his wife and son and a permanent staff of 12 families, manages the daily operations of the 378 hectare estate.

    Assisted by knowledge passed down since the 1930s, Otaviano Ribeiro Ceglia produces some of the finest quality coffees in the Mantiqueira de Minas region. After taking over the management of the farm in the 90s, he began a replanting program to gradually renovate Granja São Francisco’s thirty-five hectares of dedicated coffee growing lands. The remainder of the land is dedicated to native forest reserves with local flora and fauna, in order to maintain a balanced ecosystem and habitat for local animals.

    Between July and September, the very ripest Yellow Bourbon cherries are harvested by hand and prepared using the pulped natural process. Once picked, the skin and fruit is removed and the sticky, parchment-covered beans are left to dry on concrete patios. Careful and regular raking of the beans ensures even and consistent drying before they are transferred to a rotating dryer to finish the drying process.

    Granja São Francisco is found in the beautiful, mountainous region of Mantiqueira de Minas. This region,  located in the south of Minas Gerais, is one of the rare coffee growing regions with a little altitude and that receives ample rainfall. Thanks to this, farms in this region rarely suffer from the droughts that unfortunately are plaguing coffee producers all the more frequently. The region is recognised as one of the leading coffee producing regions in Brazil, with coffees regularly placing in the top 10 in the annual Cup of Excellence competitions.
